LIFE & WORK OF THE CONGREGATION

CALL TO WORSHIP (Celebrate God's Presence p.18 adapted)

Behold, God is doing a new thing.

Here.  Now.  In the midst of daily life.

The Holy One who created heaven and earth

forms us afresh today.

Let our spirits rise to greet our Maker.

We greet God and neighbour with signs and words of peace...

WE GREET EACH OTHER WITH THE PEACE OF CHRIST

LIGHTING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE

Over the centuries, God has spoken through many prophets.

May the light of this candle remind us that God is still speaking to us and to the world.

MUSIC MINISTRY: Gaudeamus Hodie (“Let us Rejoice Today”)

OPENING PRAYER (Celebrate God's Presence p.217 adapted)

On this Reign of Christ Sunday, as we await the coming of the Kingdom, we pray:

Come Holy Spirit, grant us the Gospel of Jubilee,

the Good News of liberation, freedom, and unity;

proclaim the release of the prisoners of division;

recover the sight of those blinded

by hatred, jealousy,

greed, and power;

grant peace and freedom to the poor,

oppressed and lost.

These words we share in the name of the one who shared these things, who proclaimed the year of God's favour, and who taught his friends to pray saying...

PRAYER FOR GOD'S REIGN (Celebrate God's Presence p.217 adapted)

God of life and love, we look forward to that day when your Kingdom comes into full bloom:

And then all that has divided us will merge

And then compassion will be wedded to power

And then softness will come to a world that is harsh and unkind

And then both men and women will be gentle

And then both women and men will be strong

And then no person will be subject to another’s will

And then all will be rich and free and varied

And then the greed of some will give way to the needs of many

And then all will share equally in the Earth’s abundance

And then all will care for the sick and the weak and the old

And then all will nourish the young

And then all will cherish life’s creatures

And then all will live in harmony with each other and the Earth

And then everywhere will be called Eden once again.

We wait with hope.  We live into the Kingdom with love.  We pray and act for justice.

God help us see the signs of the Kingdom's blooming as we wait, live, and act.  Amen.

Sung Benediction: “Until we meet again”   Lyrics by Ruth Duck

Until we meet again,

Walk gently in the way;

Dwell in the hollow of God’s hand.

Rejoice and sing, and pray!
