CALL TO WORSHIP
In the midst of winter vacations, Teachers Conventions, school tests, and medical appointments, we have slipped into a new liturgical season.
The colours have changed;
The cross-draped in purple,
A journey is being undertaken. We begin to recall Jesus' last weeks of ministry, before crucifixion and death try to silence him.
Our lives are changed as we follow Jesus, as close as we dare, on this journey. Let us sing of that journey. Let us follow the path of Jesus through this season of Lent.
(Adapted from Gathering, p.31 by Juanita Austin, First U.C.., Salmon arm, B.C.)
WE GREET EACH OTHER WITH CHRIST'S PEACE
LIFE & WORK OF THE CONGREGATION
LIGHTING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE
Jesus said “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. “
As this candle is set up high so all can see by its light, so may we shine in the world.
OPENING PRAYER (Unison)
Great God of life and death
and life beyond death,
we give you praise.
You call us out of the whirlwind,
from the foundations of the earth,
and the majesty of heaven.
You turn us like the soil: to prepare us for growth.
We are in a fallow time, God, a waiting time,
a time where change is tempting us to rush forward,
to make decisions before we are ready,
or to linger, without moving, in a safe place
where we can ignore the demands to reach out.
Help us to be faithful in the quiet time
and to obey the voices of stillness that tell us:
